Oculus has recently made available its Touch Accessory Guidelines for download, which provides hardware designers and manufacturers with the documentation and 3D CAD files necessary to develop custom accessories for the Touch controller.

The CAD files are in the .STEP format and feature the controller’s exterior surface and battery compartment, as reported by Road to VR. In addition, the new guidelines include CAD files for the Rock Band VR connector, which is an adapter that comes in the box of every Oculus Touch unit and is designed to hold the Touch controller to the Rockband guitar peripheral. Developers could also potentially use the connector to attach the Touch controller to other types of peripheral devices—this is where these CAD files may come in handy.

By Oculus providing developers the means to design custom accessories and devices for the Touch controller, the company hopes to encourage the creation of new innovative products that are compatible with its hardware and ultimately enhance the user’s VR experience on the Oculus platform.

The new Oculus Touch Accessory Guidelines expand upon the company’s existing guidelines for creating custom accessories for the Oculus Rift headset itself. For those interested, feel free to check out the Rift Accessories Guidelines for more details.
