Meta announced its plans to open its first physical retail store next month, situated on the company’s campus in Burlingame, California.

The new Meta Store will open on May 9th and will offer customers the chance to experience Meta’s entire hardware lineup in person, including the Meta Quest, Portal video-calling device, and Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses. According to the official blog post, the store is close to 1,550 square feet and will dedicate a significant portion of the space for demoing the Quest 2, which includes a massive “wall-to-wall” curved LED screen that will display the content from participants’ headsets to any onlookers.

“The best way to understand virtual reality is to experience it,” Meta founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg said as part of the announcement. He noted the new store’s focus on allowing people to demo apps and products first-hand, like the Quest 2, Ray-Ban Stories, and Portal, and creating “a sense of what’s coming as we build toward the metaverse.”

This immersive demo area also includes a decent selection of popular VR titles for customers to try out, such as Beat Saber, Supernatural, GOLF+, and Real VR Fishing. In addition, there are mounted cameras set up in the space that will capture 30-second mixed reality clips of the participant’s experience for them to take home and share with others.

“The Meta Store is going to help people make that connection to how our products can be the gateway to the metaverse in the future,” Meta Store head Martin Gilliard said in the blog post. One of the benefits of having the first store near Meta’s Reality Labs HQ, where the company’s leading researchers, developers, and engineers help build the metaverse, will also give the team at Meta “more opportunity to experiment and keep the customer experience core to our development,” Gilliard says. “What we learn here will help define our future retail strategy.”

In addition to the new store, Meta is also adding a shopping tab to its main website, making it easier for people to find and buy all its latest products and devices directly in one place online. The Meta Store will be open starting May 9th, Monday through Friday, from 11am to 6pm (PST), located at 322 Airport Blvd in Burlingame, California.
