When it comes to the virtual reality gaming industry, it is safe to say that there are going to be a lot of vast improvements made over the next few years. One of the biggest innovations is the Oculus Rift, that is developed by Oculus VR, and is expected to finally be ready to hit the consumer market in 2014. Because there has been such an interest in the Rift, Oculus has offered a “sharing site” that will allow its visitors to self-publish, discover, download and play vast collection of VR games and other Oculus Rift-enabled experiences.
Why a “Sharing” Site?
Some people wonder why Oculus wanted to start a “sharing” site, and here is what Oculus said on their blog: “With Share, you can host Oculus-ready games and experiences that you’ve created, browse and download content from other developers, rate experiences on quality and VR comfort level, provide feedback to devs on what you enjoyed (and what you didn’t), and tip fellow developers for their work in cash, should you feel so inclined.”
You will also be able to rate certain experiences, and let people know what they could do differently. It allows everyone to make a difference in the development of software and hardware advancements when it comes to virtual reality gaming.
The Categories of Oculus Share
There are several categories when it comes to Oculus Share. They include:
- Full Game
By far, the most populated category is the demo category, which give users an early glimpse into games currently in development, and offer some of the most unique experiences in taking advantage of the Oculus Rift can do.
How the Oculus Share Site Can Help Devs
This Sharing site is not only great for the gamers, but it is also a great way for developers to learn more about the things that they can do differently to make gamers happy. Developers are constantly looking for ways that they can develop new and innovative games and programs that will work with the newest technology. Through this site, developers are able to gain a better understanding of what is expected from the mass consumers, and it can really help them to advance further in the industry.
Is the Site Moderated?
If you are worried about moderation, you shouldn’t! Starting out, Oculus VR plans to moderate the submissions to the site just to make sure that there is nothing suspicious, offensive or harmful to others being put on the site. While the site is still new, they hope to see it make a really big impact on the development and advancement of their product, and they also hope that it will be a great way to get gamers interacting and letting them know what they want to see next.
