It’s official! We now have a new name. After three years of bringing you dedicated news and updates on the company we all know and love, Oculus VR, we’re now announcing the change of our blog site name from oculusVRnews.com to OVRnews.com.

We first started as oculusVRnews.com back in late 2013, covering the early developments of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset. It was Palmer Luckey’s vision of the future of VR that captured our imagination and inspired us to somehow contribute in our own way to the growing VR community. Since then, we have become one of the only main VR news blog sites focused exclusively on Oculus.

We gave this name change a lot of thought over the past year, especially since we had already established so much time and effort into our original site name. However, after much consideration, we knew it was the right thing to do. We believe we now have a more suitable domain name that will allow us to continue expanding our efforts and contributing to our readers as the trusted source for all things Oculus.

So, what’s the reason behind our switch to this new domain name?

Well, while we’ve always made it clear to readers and branded our news site as the “Unofficial Blog of the Rift,” we later came to realize that using the word ‘Oculus’ in a registered domain name could have some possible unintended trademark issues. That is something we never wanted to see happen, especially when our intention for creating this dedicated site was purely out of admiration for Oculus and the team behind it all. Yet, even though the good people at Oculus never demanded that we change our domain, we still wanted to avoid the risk and do our part in good faith.

At the end of the day, we think our new name OVR News fits pretty good…and hopefully, you’ll agree too!

Along with transitioning to our new name comes the usual website domain URL changes, new Twitter handle, and Facebook page. The good thing is if you already follow us, then everything has been automatically changed for you.

For reference, here are the appropriate sites and links:

In the future, we plan to roll out other cool changes and new features that aim to improve the overall site experience.

Our goal and mission are simple. To do the best we can to make OVRnews.com a leading VR news source dedicated to Oculus and fans of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headset and beyond.

Thank you again to all our loyal readers and followers, who help keep us motivated and make this site better each day. Please share and help us spread the word!
