Today, Samsung announced that the new version of the Gear VR Innovator Edition for the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, developed in collaboration with Oculus will be available for pre-order from Best Buy starting Friday, April 24th, and officially will go on sale at Best Buy or directly from Samsung’s website on May 8th—with its retail stores set to have them on shelves starting May 15th, where potential buyers can try out the new Gear VR experience for themselves.

The new Gear VR headset features a number of improvements to take full advantage of the Galaxy’s S6 display and hardware capabilities, including a 15% reduction in size, redesigned straps for better comfort, a built-in fan to improve airflow, as well as, its own microUSB port to power the headset during extended use.

While the ‘Innovator Edition’ of the Gear VR is still aimed at early adopters and developers, Oculus recently revealed that a consumer-focused version of the mobile headset is expected to launch by the end of the year.
